Getting Back Into It (2017)

2016 was an immensely stressful year for most people and it was no different for me. With my wedding coming up in April this year I was busy getting everything done in 2016 so the lead up was as stress free as possible. This included getting the many ceramics ready for the wedding and sidelined most of my Little Life projects that I wanted to complete.

The first pots start to come out of the kiln

The biggest project was to get all the centrepieces for the wedding complete. This proved to be a bit of a mission as my only access to a kiln was on the opposite side of Auckland at a community potters studio. I had more than a few pot casualties on the way, but we got there in the end.

It was an interesting process and I’m glad I decided at the beginning that each pot was to look different from the last because as the year went on, I got better at creating them.

Finished centrepieces for the wedding

So with only a couple pots still on the go, I’ve finished my creations for the wedding. Each different and unique, I used sand from a local beach to tie all the pieces together. Now I just need to keep the plants alive until April!

So with 2016 drawing to a close I decided that I needed to get away from everything for a time. We booked a campsite with some friends and disappeared into Northland and we took the good weather with us.

We’re now nearly at the end of January and I’m only just getting back into the swing of things. This Saturday will be my first weekend back at Auckland Studio Potters and I can’t wait to start glazing these little guys again. I’ll update again as soon as I get my first batch out!
